Rant!!! Subject Pro Shops Empty Rant!!! Subject Pro Shops

    Rant!!
Subject Pro Shops (that ain't so pro) (Not all Pro Shops)
Got a subject that gets our dander up every time.
Pro Shops or some that think they are.
    Well it goes like this,
A Pro shop gets a customer who has his bow and a set of strings (BSD of course). He drops it off and asks to have the strings installed and tuned. Only to get a call later that the strings are not the right length and he can't get the bow in tune or timed (blame it on the string maker). So after I called the Pro shop to find out they have no means of measuring the strings properly (on a ¼ inch post at 100lbs). I had the customer ship them back to me. Well the strings were dead on the mark (I expected that we measure them 3 to 4 times before shipment). Piece of advice guys who start up a Pro Shop or ones that hire a tech learn to install strings and tune a bow. For the most part you can't just throw a good set of strings on and its good. You need to take steps to ensure that it is. Besides a good bow tech is where you make your money.

That is my rant for today!

    Thanks for listening!!

Glad to know I can put the blame on BSD when that guy I see in the mirror messes up the installation on his bows.

Maybe I should open a pro shop. Never had a single problem installing BSD string sets on anything I've got. Only once have I needed to even twist a cable, and that was only one turn. (Blame that one on Brad! lol)
Bill, you should come down here and walk into some of the bow shops we have. Guy tried to charge me $15 for tying on a D-loop in one. Another shop, I looked at 7 different bows they had for sale, not a single one of them was timed properly. Fortunately, they were busy enough they left me alone in their workshop for a few minutes while waiting on other customers, and I had time to get a bow set up properly to shoot. Their "tech" didn't even know how to time the cams. It's sad down here. I hear all the horror stories from everyone, and think "What's not normal about that kind of service?" lol

Being a hands-on type of guy I've been my own Pro Shop since just about day one--43 years ago. Can't say I've ever had a bow in a shop for any repairs or adjustments. Also can't say I've ever seen a PRO working in a shop. One type of tech I would never allow to touch my bows would be one that says "I'm only a bowhunter".

I'd love to be able to, but can't get out of the school bus long enough. I will say this for anybody willing to listen. Setting a bow up from scratch takes about 2 hours or less once you know what you're doing. That means installation of all the accessories, checking the draw weight and draw length on a draw board.

The important part is taking the time to set the draw length to something exact, often by twisting string and cables, and then getting the cam timed and in the case of dual cams, getting them synched.

All this is what some people call tuning, but it is not tuning. It's just basic setup procedures.

I'll have a lot more later.

Yep that is not tuning just set up. So many Pro shops don't understand a lot of things its so sad.

Hutch I agree, I kinda had an issue with a local shop. This guy has been working on bows for over 30 years and I'll give it to him he did a good job with my Elite Z28 but he wanted to argue with about the strings I bought from you saying they were too short and went on and on about how string builders don't know what they're doing and so on. But I think he was complaining more or less because I didn't buy my strings from him or any of my other bow accessories from him. To be fair I had no idea this guy even had a shop a couple blocks away from me let alone knowing he built strings. Anyone who knows me, knows I am extremely particular who works on my bows and what type of products I use on them and I looked at some of his work and they look like well built strings but he is very proud of them by the way he priced them (nearly 150.00 for a set). Every time I went over to his shop he had some sort of complaint, or comment about some component I had on my bow. Needless to say, once he was finished I never went back and I'm seriously considering purchasing my own shop equipment and working on my own stuff from now on.
